Antique 1800’s 19th century embroidered waistcoat.
One of the most incredible pieces I’ve come across..
I believe it’s Macedonian.. I’m no expert and surely someone out there knows exactly when and where this piece was worn.
Incredible and intricate soutache embroidery over contrasting velvet panels..
The black velvet labels have a rust orange embroidery..the beige velvet has an olive green embroidery..
There’s accents of black and orange braid, beautiful white and other color thread details, and metal sequins…
This vest is very thick and has a wonderful stiff tailoring..
Its made of a thick natural wool of some kind..it’s quite bristly..
All of the beautiful stitch work is visible on the inside..there is no lining..
Some dirty straps to tie the waist in place..
The vest is edged in a rust red cotton..
There are no closures other than the inner waist tie
This piece is incredibly rare and unusual to find..

Excellent condition. There is a small amount of wear and original dirt and repairs...the velvet is worn down…some scattered moth bites along the red cotton edging..incredible for its age..museum.
