Incredible antique kimono.
I don’t have much knowledge of pieces like this.
I don’t know it’s age.
I do know that it’s a special one..
All silk..
A stormy sea blue jacquard with a beautiful sea kelp pattern..
The most vibrant red silk lines the inside..
I love the way the red silk peeks out from the depths of the folds of jacquard..
The cut of the kimono is wonderful..
Huge sleeves that almost reach the floor..
Such a beautiful silhouette!
No obi or closure, though one could be acquired, or a belt could be used..
Now the decoration on this kimono seem special to me..
17 skillfully hand painted cranes..all different.
Some in flight, while others nest in the pine boughs..
Beautiful little medallions or badges…
They seem to mean something…
Perhaps they are little monograms..
I wish I knew more!
The front and bottom panels are lightly padded
giving some weight and adding to the gorgeous silhouette!
Really a special piece!
Very very good to excellent condition..does have some breakage to the silk where the pine boughs are painted at the bottom
of the front panels..the paint perhaps weakened or stiffened the silk and causes some damage..you can see a bit of the padding where the silk is cracked and damaged..there are a couple missing stitches to the red lining, I’m happy to fix. Overall the kimono is in beautiful condition. Message if you need any more details or photos of the cracking, it was hard to capture
fits a variety of sizes
length 64”
sleeve length 42”
